18: Making a Way

Kara Robinson is a first-generation college graduate who attended North Carolina Central University. She graduated with her B.A. in Elementary Education with a concentration in English Writing.

Kara is currently pursuing her MSA (Masters of School Administration) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and will graduate in May 2019.

She is the oldest of four girls; born in Minnesota but raised in the United States. Kara’s family constantly moved throughout her childhood and was placed into foster care during her teenage years—she has always been a strong role model for her family, sisters, and her community.

Now, Kara is a 3rd-grade teacher within Durham Public Schools. In her community, she’s involved with Big Brother Big Sister of the Triangle who mentors sweet 12-year-old girls, serves at her church with the youth group and speaks occasionally to the youth for empowerment. During her free time, she loves to try new foods, laugh with friends, and travel.
