225: How to Handle Daunting Situations
In today’s episode, we’re going to do something a little different. Instead of the usual guest interviews or breaking down my topics, I’m going to answer some of your questions. Yes, you can now send me questions you feel need adressing, and I’ll see what I can do about it.
The first topic comes from Mike, who asks:
- What gives you the confidence to tackle daunting tasks?
- How do you stay motivated when faced with intimidating obstacles?
- Advice to people with big dreams on how to take the first step
How to Handle Daunting Situations – 02:30
Life is difficult. Some days will be good, and some days will be hard. So, when things go well, embrace them and be happy. When things don’t go according to plan, instead of wallowing in misery, take action. And what I do in these situations is remember that God believes in me and continues to invest in me daily. I know this might sound all woo woo. But believe me, when you think of your mission and God’s purpose for you on this earth, you can face anything.
Of course, this doesn’t mean those difficult situations won’t be uncomfortable. It just means you believe in your higher purpose and God is always by your side. That said, the most important part is still up to you; you still have to face the situation head-on. If a coworker is being difficult, talk to them about it. When someone isn’t treating you right, make sure you let them know what you think. The only way you can sleep well at night is knowing you get stuff done when needed.
Ways to Make Yourself Follow Through – 04:38
Setting goals is easy, but following through is a different topic. Why? Because most people assume deciding to pursue something is all it takes to achieve something. But here’s what I’ve learned through the years. You’ll never achieve something unless you back your decisions with actions. It’s easy to watch motivational videos on YouTube and make all these promises, but unless you actually put in the work, nothing happens.
For me, it all comes back to purpose. You see, motivation is driven by meaning. And your meaning in life is the connection to a goal more significant than yourself. So every time I feel like giving up or feel like I can’t push anymore, I just remember my purpose. There will be tests, and things will get tough, but as they say, there is no testimony without a test. So, remember why you started and keep pressing forward.
How to Take That First Step – 07:27
If you are like most people, you probably have a dream deep in your heart that you want to pursue. And if you are like most people, you might feel stuck about where to start. I know taking the first step is perhaps the most difficult thing you’ll ever do in your life. But here’s the thing; there will be a lot of roadblocks along the way. But the only limitation you have is in your mind. And if you don’t take the first step, you will forever stay in the same place. The first step doesn’t have to be a big step. It just has to be significant enough to drive some momentum.
