257: Getting Through the Storms
We all have troubles in our lives; challenges that test our emotional, mental, and sometimes our physical stamina. For some of us, the troubles are life-threatening, while it’s not that serious for others. What we can all agree on is that there’s always something. In fact, we can go as far as to state that problems are forever. You can start a new week and have problems on Monday morning. Step out of the house and find a problem in your mailbox. As first-gens, overcoming obstacles in life can be pretty complicated. The good news is we all can summon the courage to face them. The even better news is that troubles are like storms. It doesn’t matter how long they last, but they always pass.
It’s Okay to Be Not Okay – 03:30
I know how chaotic life can sometimes be. For some of you, your job isn’t your favorite, your anxiety is higher than it’s ever been, and the unpaid bills just keep on increasing. Maybe that’s not exactly what’s eating you up, but something’s definitely not right. I’m here to tell you that it’s okay not to be okay. Your feelings and emotions are valid. You don’t have to be strong all the time; you’re allowed to cry, to admit that you’re not okay, but more importantly, to dust yourself off and keep on moving.
And if your loved one is going through a rough patch, choose your words wisely. Instead of telling them that it’s okay, give them hope and tell them it will be okay. It took me a while to learn this simple fact, but the hope of a better tomorrow is often what a person needs when they hit rock bottom.
Troubles are Not Punishments From the Universe – 08:40
“Look out for the light at the end of the tunnel.” I know you’ve heard of this term a million times and probably used it a million other times, but there’s something it does specifically highlight. You see, when you’re in a dark tunnel, your first instinct is to look for a source of light. But what happens when you can’t find the light? Do you just give up and let the darkness win? No. You adapt to the darkness and keep on moving.
I’m essentially saying that it’s okay to be in the darkness. There’s nothing you did wrong, so your troubles are not punishments from the universe. And if you feel like the storm has overstayed, then it’s time to start learning. Learn as much as you can, build resilience, and at the end of it all, you’ll come out a stronger and more resilient human being.
